Antoine Thompson Varsity Head Coach

Antoine Thompson, a veteran educator, coach, creative speaker, mentor, most importantly devoted father to son and daughter Brandon and Brooklyn Thompson. After being a four year varsity basketball letterman and graduating Manor High School in 2009; Thompson went on topursue collegiate athletics at Mississippi College. Transferring to Austin College in 2010 to continue collegiate academic & athletic career, he went on to become 1st team All SCAC 2011-2012, 2nd team All SCAC 2012-2013.

After collegiate basketball career concluded, he earned a degree in Masters of Arts in education in 2014, before beginning my educational and coaching career. Dedicated educator now for nine years currently holding a position at Stony Point High School, and serving as the Varsity Boys basketball Coach.Also as the head coach for ASAK basketball, an adidas sponsored 3SSB team, I pride myself in building a better society by increasing rigor and opportunity amongst student-athletes today. Serving others is a profound dedication of mine, and building relationships with young student-athletes is residual motivation for me.

Paul Buntyn Head Varsity Assistant/Junior Varsity Coach

Paul Buntyn is the Lead Assistant at Stony Point HS. Coach Buntyn has been coaching varsity high school basketball for 18 years and has been in education for 10 years. He has dedicated his life to serving the youth, helping them grow to become better men and transition to post high school education.

 

Prior to Stony Point HS, he was the Head Boys Basketball Coach at Canyon HS for 3 years. Coach B also was the Lead Assistant for Boys Basketball at Smithson Valley HS all while maintaining an Athletic Director Role within a Non-Profit called ALMS Inc.Coach Buntyn began his coaching career as the head coach for the AAU team SaintsElite, where they had multiple top 6 finishes at AAU Nationals. He has helped over 40 young men sign to play college basketball over his career, including 5 Division 1 players and 2 that have gone on to play professionally.


Coach Buntyn is a San Marcos High School Alum, he played at Glendale CC where he broke the record for most assists in a game in school history. After, he transferred to TX Wesleyan University where they finished top 10 in the country. He received his B.S. degree in Nonprofit Leadership and Management from Arizona State University.


Coach Buntyn and his wife Kymberlee have 3 children, Miranda, Uzziah, and Zemira

Marcus Saunders Varsity Assistant/Director of skill development/Freshmen A Coach

 Marcus Saunders, a native of Killeen, Texas, has been the coaching face within the Stony Point Learning community for the last five years formerly as the Campus Athletics Coordinator at Hopewell Middle School. Coach Saunders played collegiate basketball at The University of Texas Permian Basin as a 3 year starter and was ranked as one of the top 15 shot blockers in the country.He earned a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology with a minor in Art History, making the National Dean’s List. 


Coach Saunders moved on to play basketball professionally abroad in England, Spain, and China along with a short stint in the NBA D-league and time with ABA’s nationally ranked West Texas Whirlwinds. After basketball, Coach Saunders had an illustrious 7 year career with the Boys & Girls Club of Central Texas before entering the world of education. Saunders earned a Masters of Education degree with an emphasis in Sports Administration from Concordia University and is currently pursuing his PhD in Organizational Leadership from Concordia University Chicago.


 Saunders brings a wealth of knowledge, networking, creativity, and teamwork. Saunders is a loving husband to well known tennis coach, Teri Saunders, and father to Marcus Jr. (7) and Meilani (6). Coach Saunders will serve as our lead freshman basketball coach and varsity assistant.
